There are many places of historic and horticultural interest located near to Lynton and throughout Exmoor and North Devon. These include many properties owned by the National Trust, English Heritage and the Royal Horticultural Society.

Walking

Walking is by far the most popular way to enjoy Exmoor and North Devon. There are an abundance of trails and paths suitable for novice and experienced walkers alike.

Chough's Nest Hotel lies directly on the South West Coast Path, which runs from Minehead in Somerset to Poole in Dorset and encompasses some of the most dramatic coastlines in England.

Fishing

Fishing is available close to Lynton and there are many local fisheries including Wimbleball Lake for rainbow trout, Wistlandpound fishery for rainbow and brown trout and Lower Slade fishery near Ilfracombe. River angling is available along the East Lyn River.

Fishing permits/licenses are available from the Lynton Tourist Information Centre.

Horse Riding

Horse riding is ever popular in Exmoor and there are stables and riding schools in and around the Lynton area which provide day trips out across the moors.

There are many cycle routes throughout Exmoor and North Devon, most notably the Tarka Trail from Ilfracombe to Bideford and beyond.
